Launching soon, Gizani is a Nairobi-based ‘dine in the dark’ restaurant and social enterprise. Aiming to both provide a unique fine dining experience and to raise awareness of the social status of blind people in Kenya, it will employ blind staff only.
Half of its proceedings will fund advocacy and educational events for children and youth at schools as well as provide assistance to the Thika School for the Blind in Nairobi.
The restaurant’s founder approached Partikular to provide a complete brand identity for this exciting new venture. We went through several concepts and revisions, then ultimately developed the Gizani shield logo shown here:
The overall shape of the crest is inspired by the Maasai shield within the Kenyan flag. It’s a strong, unique and pleasingly symmetrical shape.
The four dots within the shield form the letter ‘G’ in the braille alphabet. This could also be shown through embossing the dots in printed materials.
The four circles further represent 4 people dining and connecting with each other in the dark.
‘Good Food Shines in the Dark’ (also shortened to ‘Shine In The Dark’) is a play on the Kenyan proverb ‘A Good Reputation Shines in the Dark’.
Partikular provided examples of the logo in use over a full identity kit and employed a trusted printing service to create items to detailed specifications, which are then delivered directly to Kenya. Notice how versatile the logo is and how it scales easily for use across various media, as well as for use in social media profile images.
Partikular was delighted to have the opportunity to design a full identity for this exciting new venture which supports a great cause. If you’d like to talk about creating a brand identity for your business, get in touch via email.
